Heading Off Stress and Anger Before the Holiday Season

The expense of gifts and food, the pressure of shopping and the expectations of the season can make holidays an extremely stressful time.

Are you beginning to feel edgy about the upcoming holiday festivities?

Holidays can be a stressful and depressing time for many people. Financial and time pressures, isolation, family tensions, separation and divorce, bereavement, becoming a step-family, or just reflecting on another year gone by can all undermine the holiday spirit.

Monitoring and changing internal conversations is an important tool for anger management any time of the year, but is critical around the holidays. Holidays encourage family members to interact with each other, sometimes re-igniting lifetime dynamics and painful issues.

Some people also find themselves alone at Christmas time. This may be due to relocation to a city far from relatives, a marital break-up, or family estrangement. The emphasis on family, friends and shared good times during the ‘festive season’ can make these people feel depressed and unloved.

I myself have had to learn some basic anger management techniques to utilize during the holiday season. I also combine anger management with bodywork to upgrade my physical body.

I compare the massage table to a human dock station. Just like you plug in your iPhone to reboot and recharge it, massage leaves you with a new battery life that will serve you long after the session has ended.

Holiday Meditation

1.) Begin by breathing in and softening all of your internal organs. Keep doing it until you feel a tangible softening.

2.) Establish grounding points at your feet and base of your spine.

3.) Do a technique I created called “The French Press Technique”. Just like the press, instead of pressing down on the tea or coffee, see yourself pressing out everyone else’s energy from your physical body, starting at the crown of your head and pressing and pushing all the way down your physical body. Notice any areas that get a little gritty or stuck and apply more concentration to that area.

4.) Throw out a large golden butterfly net to the universe and begin to call back all of your energy that has been dispersed. Notice if you feel a visceral sensation of what it feel like to have your personal energy return to you. Think of certain conversations where you lost energy or power. The return of your personal life-force should feel good. Once you have all of you back it is important to really seal in your personal space and establish solid protection.

5.) See your self surrounded by white flowers for beauty, protection and grace.

6.) When you go out in public and feel disgruntled energy, try visualizing thick golden thorns around you. Energetically people will sense it and not bump into you. I often use this at airports and while waiting in line. It works like a charm.

Most of all, be proactive this holiday season and take the best care of yourself that you can.

Blessings and Happy Holidays,

Amanda
