Connecting the Dots by Amanda Snow

Since many of our most challenging “issues live in our tissues”, not just in our mind, they directly affect the health of our emotional and physical bodies. Over the past twelve years I have studied and practiced several somatic modalities to help myself and others overcome issues stored in the body that were holding them back from enjoying optimum health, happiness and success.

On a mission to connect the dots to why discomfort and pain continues to resurface in people’s bodies I found my greatest answers have come from combining therapeutic massage, energy medicine and a system called Whole Body Intelligence. The combination of these modalities often surfaces a flood of memories that are traumatic ones that are at the core of physical pain, emotional instability and negative thinking. Until they are identified and released in our body/mind we feel stuck and can’t move forward.

In the book Whole Body Intelligence, author and body centered coach Steve Sisgold asserts, “When we get hurt and are unable to resolve past emotions that still live in our body, the emotions and hurt linger. They don’t magically disappear. We may keep them at bay by holding our breath and squeezing them into our bodies, but if we don’t move them all the way through our body, it’s like putting a load of laundry in the washing machine but never letting it cycle through to rinse and dry. The clothes get funky.”

To better understand how past hurts when stored in the body cause havoc in our life meet a client name Ariel who was referred by her Chiropractor for chronic lower back and hip discomfort.

I began Ariel’s session grounding and diagnosing her Chakra system. I then modulated her chakras to appropriate settings and used Intuition Medicine™ techniques and massage to boost her Life- force energy. I proceeded to use Acutonics Tuning Forks, and the frequencies I chose helped her stay in her body and relax her thoughts. As a creative type and professional artist, Ariel shared that she was energetically sensitive to others and maintaining her own center had been an issue for many years, so she preferred to paint and be alone. However there was also a longing to connect deeply with a man, but she was still reeling from her latest, very toxic relationship.

Using therapeutic massage, I spent a fair amount of time on Ariel’s hips, gluts, and sacrum, as well as the front of her legs, quadriceps, and hip flexors, to release the base of her body, which was very tight and restricted.

I then asked Ariel to breathe into her pelvis and specifically into the seams of her body where the top of her thighs met her pelvis. I find often that women, hold a lot of energetic debris in their second chakra. The belly, pelvic area, and psoas are major areas that usually need to be cleared and released often in women.

I was massaging and lengthening the tops of her thighs and working on her lower abdomen and the seams of her body when all of a sudden I got an intuitive hit. I sensed that there might be some scar tissue present. Ariel had never mentioned any surgeries and there were not any clear, visible incisions marks. I began to inquire using a WBI protocol as she continued to breathe and rock her pelvis.

It was very profound because as she breathed, Ariel got in touch with a somatic memory of having an IUD surgically removed after it had gotten stuck within her pelvis. The doctors removed the IUD with laparoscopic surgery. They went through the belly and the upper thigh to remove it. Bingo: this confirmed the medical intuition of the scar tissue being present and why this area would have chronic tightness and need attention, physically and energetically. The remembering of the IUD implantation that had gone awry was significant for Ariel because she didn’t want to insert the IUD in the first place. It was symbolic to how she gave her power away to her ex on various levels. By not listening to her body and intuition and allowing herself to be influenced regarding the insertion of this medical device, pain and discomfort was present years later. For many women, procedures around the pelvis carry an emotional tone or story around love, pain, fertility, and power.

Ariel then revealed that she had been very much in love with her past mate. She even professed to him- “You will be the ONLY man, I will ever love or be with!” She continued- “Even if things do not work between us, I don’t want to be in relationship with anyone else for the rest of my life.” Ariel got emotional after realizing how carrying this belief in her body continued to play out and keep her single and isolated. Now that Ariel identified this belief we then worked on physically releasing it from her body. Different than transitional psychotherapy, WBI facilitates what Sisgold calls a “viral belief” to physically release from the body. In Whole Body Intelligence says “Like infective, corrupting agents that sicken our bodies, viral beliefs sicken the mind and negatively impact behavior. Just like those pesky, parasitic, protein-coated virus molecules, viral beliefs can lie dormant until some external factor or emotional trigger activates them.”

Continuing to help her release her viral belief, I worked on her leg, allowing her leg to shake continuously and move around in the hip socket, and I encouraged her to express all of her deeply stored feelings she had about the past relationship and how that affected her from connecting with anyone else. When it was complete, her nervous system was re-set. To seal it all in, we worked on her replacing the viral belief with what Sisgold calls a “vital belief.”

Ariel stated several times “ I am opening my heart for someone new to come into my life.”

After saying this and breathing it in several times, Ariel felt more ready to be open to having a man in her life again. Through the body, she identified and released the exact block of what had been in her way.

A week later she reported she met someone she was very interested in. She stated how powerful it was for an eligible guy to show up after she changed her belief in her body.

Months later Ariel is still pain free, enjoying a strong creative painting cycle and in a new relationship. Connecting the dots to why she had pain in her body and how that related to an unresolved relationship, a “contract” she made with herself to be alone and other past traumas she held, set her free, from head to toe to create the life she truly desired and deserved.

Ask yourself what you would like to enjoy in your life right now and then listen to how your body feels about that. When you connect the dots to what your body is holding on to that might be blocking that desire from manifesting, then you like Ariel can set yourself free in your whole body, and watch it show up.
